Question by ana r: My neighbor wants the apartment complex to force me to get rid of my dog what can I do?
I have a 9 month old Maltese, he is very sweet, polite and doesn’t have any major issues. About 3 months ago someone was moved to the apartment in front of mine. This man was transferred from another apartment in the same complex because he didn’t like his neighbors and he complained too much. In January I received a letter from the complex saying someone had complained about my dog barking too much, and we just received another letter today.
My dog doesn’t bark during the day, he sometimes barks when he hears someone coming up the stairs or standing outside my door. The problem that we are working on is that on Friday and Saturday he barks between 11 pm and 1 am when someone in the apartment is missing. It’s not constant, it’s more like he is hyper-aware and more sensitive to sound so he will bark then. We realize how this is annoying and I am working on fixing the issue because it’s not fair on our neighbors.
This past saturday I was home sick with the flu, and if I am there the dog doesn’t bark. My neighbor was coming back from getting groceries at 7PM and knocked on my door (triggering my dog to bark) and started yelling at me and threatening me saying “if you don’t get out of this apartment, your dog will, one of you is going to have to leave”. Mind you, he just moved in and we have been there for 6 years with no previous issues. He yelled to the extent that I was left shaking and crying.
I called the leasing office today to deal with the letter we received, they said we had to get the barking under control because someone had complained the dog had barked this past weekend from 12am – 1:30 am and they had knocked on my door but no one answered. I was home then with the 3 members of my family, the dog wasn’t barking and no one knocked. I recognize this may have happened before, but the house is never empty at that time, there may be someone out, but there are always at least 2 people there, someone would have opened the door. I mentioned to the leasing office the incident of my neighbor yelling at me on Saturday and they said they would talk to him about it. I also suggested I was willing to switch apartments and even pay extra and move into a townhouses available in the complex (they don’t share walls with neighbors) in order to disturb less and get rid of a neighbor that I consider to be a threat. To what they told me that because of the dog issues, they won’t move me; f I want to move within the complex I will have to wait until the lease is up in October and “if we can’t control the dog, you’ll have to get rid of it”. Not only did we pay $ 500 deposit for the dog, we pay extra $ 50 a month for his rent. He has absolutely no issues to work on besides the barking and we are working on it and improving where we need to improve, but this is just not fair…he is just a puppy. Does anyone know what my rights are or have any suggestions if you’ve been in similar situations? I would really appreciate it. This dog is part of the family. Thank you!

Tell that neighbor to STFU. He has NOOOO Right. I’d keep the dog and tell him to suck it. If the dog is a part of your family, it is.

If he is eating and drinking water, it isn’t an emergency. But I would take him to the vet and make sure. It could be weather related or he may be getting older. Sometimes they can suffer from depression, just like people. The best thing to do is to talk to your vet.

Question by Mr. Yag Ru: Dog sneezing after moving?
Noticed that my poodle had a crazy sneeze yesterday. I moved unto a new apartment unit. I believe the new fresh smell of paint is bothering her. Other than opening windows to wipe out that smell what else can I do?

She is eating regular, drinking water, and using the bathroom. I have her at work with me now while my place air out.

Any suggestions???

It is possible there is mold or mildew that your dog can smell that you cannot smell. But sometimes dogs sneeze out of anxiety. Make sure that you are keeping her feeling calm and safe. You should definitely air out your new place for a while, and maybe you can plug in a de-humidifier to help her.

Question by John Turban: Can I get my dog sick?
I have the flu and strep throat and want to pet my dog and such, but I’m worried I can get him sick.

Is it possible for me to transfer either 2 my dog?

Answer by Jacob
Although I doubt the flu is contagious to a dog, it is likely for a dog to catch a disease from a human. Just treat the dog like you would a loved family member, try to refrain from kissing it, or letting it lick your face, and try to wash your hands before contact. The strep throat isn’t contagious though.

Creature Comforts was originally a 1989 British humorous animated short film about how animals feel about living in a zoo, featuring the voices of the British public “spoken” by the animals. It was created by Nick Park and Aardman Animations. The film later became the basis of a series of television advertisements for the UK Electricity Board, and in 2003 a television series in the same style was released. An American version of the series was also made. The original 5-minute film Creature Comforts was conceived and directed by Nick Park and produced by Aardman Animations featuring the voices of British non-actors in the same vein as the “man on the street” Vox Pop interviews. It was produced as part of a series called Lip Synch for Channel 4. The film won Nick Park the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 1990. The film shows various animals in a zoo being interviewed about their living conditions. These include turtles, a female gorilla, a family of polar bears, and a melancholic Mountain Lion who complains about the “lack of space” and the “grass with pollen that gives me hay fever every day!” The dialogue was created by interviewing residents of a housing development, an old people’s home and a family that lived in a local shop (the polar bears). Clay animation was then created that attributed the answers to zoo animals. One of the most popular characters was the Mountain Lion. He was in fact a Brazilian student who lived in a hotel and was talking about his

Question by alisan a: Why is my dog having sneezing fits?
My dog occassionally has sneezing fits. It’ll go on for about 10-15 minutes almost constantly and it’s one of the whole body sneezes. It doesn’t seem to be anything serious, but I was just wondering if anybody else has a dog that does this. Is it just allergies? Or maybe just getting into dust? I want to make sure that she’s not in any real pain.
Just to give some more details…. there isn’t any discharge or anything like that and she doesn’t seem to be in any pain. I’ve seen these fits only happen every 4 months or around then. Thanks for the advice, I’ll give my vet a call just to be safe :)
