Swine flu (as well as other flues) and pets?
Posted by: Alan in dog flu treatment, tags: flues, pets, swine, well
We have eleven birds (five baby budgerigars, three adults, three cockatiels) and one dog. I’m sick with the flu (doubt its the H1N1), but I was wondering, is it safe to handle our birds, especially the babies?

first of all, Birds or dogs dont get H1N1 virus.
secondly, even if its another flu the mother has, the babies can be handled as long as they dont get in the virus thru any contact.

One of the few animals to get the H1N1 flu is ferrets. I think it’ll be ok.

your pets should be safe I would wear gloves around the baby animals just to protect them they wont get the swine flu but they can catch a virus from it. I would recommend letting someone else hadle the babies until you are fever free for 24 hours
