There is no such thing as a “teacup Chihuahua”, but I’m leaving that phrase in the title because that’s how I get all my views. This so-called “teacup” turned out to be HUGE and FAT as an adult dog, so don’t believe the nonsense about “teacups”. They are just runts, but they could easily grow up to be normal sized. —————- This is my 9 week old female Chihuahua. She’s only 1 pound and 2 oz and I bought her one week ago. I took her to the vet on 05/20 and she was diagnosed as having parasites and worms. The vet gave her a LOT of medicines and treatments. Here is the rundown of all the different meds. The vet gave her a shot of Pyrantel Pamoate for pinworms. The invoice says “Qty 2 – Pyrantel Pamoate (Strongid). He also gave her a partially used bottle of Albon 5% oral medication for parasites, which I was to continue giving to her until it ran out. She has taken the medicine for 5 days now. I’ve read online that 5 days is the normal length of treatment so I am not giving her any more of it. I read online that you are supposed to shake the Albon very well before using it. The vet did not tell me that. He also didn’t bother to tell me about any side effects that could occur, although there are several. He also gave me a small tube of Advantage Dog flea treatment (ointment) that I was instructed to rub between her shoulder blades. The tube says that it is for dogs under 10 lbs. I asked him if I should use the whole tube considering she is only 1 lb. He said yes …
Question by Breanna B: Question about my chihuahua (VERY important) She caughta cough form my friends dog! (read inside)?
Ok so I have a 2 pound female chihuahua puppy that I got from a very good chihuahua breeder. (No, she isn’t from a pet store!) I don’t believe in that!
Anyways, my friends chihuahua came from a puppy store and she has this cough-gag thing. The two puppies had a playdate this Saturday and my dog started to cough today just like my friends dog. It sounds like a cough and a gag mixed together. I am so worried and I am not going to let them play again until the other dog gets rid of the cough-gag. I plan to take her to the vet if it continues. (note it is not kennel cough) My friend says that her vet said it wasn’t contagious but I don’t believe that anymore.
Thank you so much!

Answer by darlyngirl1982 my dog had a similar couch/gag sound- it turned out to be a throat infection- it was also making him sick to his stomach from swallowing the infected mucus and lethargic because he had a slight fever.
We went to the vet- got a shot of antibiotics and some pills- and he is 95% better now. See your vet.
It’s hard for me to be objective about my little goblin faced chihuahua China. She’s 6 years old and her favorite trick is sneezing with gusto. Notice how she swings her head back and braces herself. These sneezes are for real and she does them on command (for treats of course). I hope others in the community will be as entertained as I am by this cheeky little perfomer. You can see more of her on: www.dogster.com

Question by Bearded Gecko: What is wrong with my Chihuahua?
She has a runny nose and keep on making a weird noise with its nose, like when we do when we are sick and we having to itch our throat….? idk how to explain it…ummm…. I think she just has a flu or something. But now what should I do, I dont have a ton of money to go to a vet, when there is just a home remedy out there that could make my dog better… Any suggestions?

Answer by Imperfectly Perfect I would just call and discuss this with your vet. Dogs can catch colds, and it doesn’t sound to serious. If it gets worse, then you’ll need to fork out the cash and go to the vet.
Keep your chi warm and make sure it drinks lots of water
He has been to the vet. His blood-work came back normal but he is still very restless. Could there be something neurological? His tummy was twitching yesterday but seems better now. He is almost constantly by my side so I know it is not a toxin or trauma.
