Session #3 – Because the owner had the flu this past week, Layla did not get the exercise or training from session #2, so I adjusted our plan for session #3. We added ‘outdoor’ environmnet which is always more exciting. We added ‘milling children and people’ for distractions. Layla was C/T for any behavior she offered me, including looking and/or interacting with another person. Layla was LOADED with energy this morning and we noticed that she had some new triggers – 1. owner/handler reaction – she would jump if the owner handler moved hand or arm, so we worked on that a bit when she was ready. 2. Because Layla was under exercised, her moving excited her to much and we wanted to keep her successful, so her movement was kept to a minimum. 3. Layla has had very little contact with scooters and/or skateboards. We had the children use them but at a distance unless they approached slowly. 4. Layla tried ‘face launching’ everytime someone laughed. The owner said he has noticed this before. So I laughed ‘lightly’ a couple of times when I saw her ‘calm’. THis most definitely will need more work. OWNER HOMEWORK- 1. EXERCISE – this is a must with a young healthy adolescent dog, especially when modifying behaviors. A minimum of 2 hours of ‘tongue draggin exercise everyday’, dog-dog play in the yard does not count. 2. Layla needs to go into a busy people area everyday; markets, hardware stores, college campus. Everytime she passes a person or offers a behavior besides jumping, C/T …
