Go to the vet for a treatment?

Please Please do not take your dog anywhere that it can come in contact with other dogs.

Question by Ani: How can I bring my dog’s fever down?
For the past few days, my Pom hasn’t been feeling very well. Today she seemed especially sick, so my parents scheduled an appointment to the vet’s tomorrow morning.

But that’s still a long time away, and I was wondering how I could keep her temperature in check? Would rubbing alcohol onto her paws really help?

I’m so worried and upset seeing her look so under the weather..

Also, she’s been having some trouble keeping her food down. We tried giving her boiled white rice with chicken, but she ended throwing that up.

What would be the best thing to feed her..?

I’m sorry, I’m just really, really worried. She’s my best friend, and.. Yeah. ;__;
I’d appreciate all answers a lot.
Umm, I’m not really sure what’s her exact temp, since we don’t have a thermometer. D:

I know checking her ears/nose isn’t the most reliable way to tell, but I tried that since that was the only method I could use. Both were hot to the touch. She also seems lethargic, so I kind of assumed that she did have a fever..
I’d buy a thermometer in a heartbeat if I could. But it’s nighttime over here, and I don’t have any means to go out besides asking my parents to drive me.

Ummm. ;__;
Do you think she’d be okay if we waited until morning to take her…?
Sorry for adding so many details (thanks so much for all the answers, by the way) but I think the reason she has a fever is because of something related to her stomach problems. She’s been having trouble keeping her food down, and has been having diarrhea.

The last time this happened, she was diagnosed with colitis, I think, but..

What is her temp??

Depending on her temperature will depend on whether I tell you to get going to the E-Vet.

Yes, rubbing alcohol to her pads will help… but you ****really**** need to find out WHY she has a fever. I also recommend getting ice packs to cool her down.

ADD: Could you go out and get a thermometer? Fevers in dogs is nothing to take lightly and things can go downhill VERY fast, unfortunately.

Personally, I would bring her to the E-Vet tonight.

Question by Kathryn: Looking up Kennel Cough for Dogs? Kennel Cough= The Common Dog Cold??? What?
( about 10 years ago) My Pomeranian died after 1 week in the Kennel (at the vets) from what we were told at the vets was Kennel Cough which she was not vaccinated for because they were not required to do so at the time. I just looked it up and Kennel Cough isn’t supposed to be fatal. I just want to know why these so called vets did not see my dog coughing and if it really WAS Kennel Cough that could kill her after only a week. And I am wondering if I should have sued them.

Best answer:

Answer by oregano13
Yes, kennel cough CAN kill. When left untreated (or even sometimes when it is treated), it can turn into pneumonia, which can be very much fatal, and in a very short period of time. I would be suspicious that she died while supposedly under the care of a veterinarian, though. Any vet should have been able to recognize the symptoms early and treat appropriately. While there would certainly be a chance that it could still kill a dog even with aggressive treatment, it would be very unusual. 10 years later, though, it’s irrelevant. Any statute of limitations for negligence has surely expired, and there’s nothing you can do now. Probably better not to dwell on it and move on.

Question by lindzee: What causes reverse sneezing in dogs?
This morning my 5 year old pit bull started making this awful snorting noise, followed by a regular sneeze. We originally thought she was choking, but it now looks to be reverse sneezing, as she has no other symptoms and is eating normally, not coughing or anything. My question is, what would cause a middle aged dog to suddenly develop this. We will probably just end up taking her to the vet if it continues, but I’m just curious.

Thanks.

Answer by Bonzie12
The exact reason for these reverse sneezing episodes is unknown but may be related to allergies, nasal irritants, or nasal inflammation. Any age, breed or sex can be affected.
A reverse sneeze may look disturbing – many people fear that their dog is not breathing during these episodes – but it is not a harmful condition and there are no ill effects. Reverse sneezing attacks are generally quite brief and not life threatening. Between episodes, the dog acts normal.

In some situation when reverse sneezing is frequent, a more serious condition may be the underlying cause. In those situations, testing for nasal mites, nasal cancer should be done.

Question by marlene r: Is there a home remedy to reduce my dogs fever until i can get her to the vet on monday?

Best answer:

Answer by judahsma
If you’re dog’s running a fever, you shouldn’t wait until Monday to take her to the vet, especially if you don’t know WHY she’s running a fever. Take her to an emergency vet and get her looked at.

Question by Mozz: I never adopted a dog from a kennel before. Do all kennel dogs come home w/ kennel cough and mange?
Or was he just a skank? He’s all fixed up now he’s fine, but if someone asks if I would recommend the adoption agency I’m inclined to say no, unless all dogs get these things.
Yes a shelter – not an adoption agency, sorry about that

No way! They treat their dogs very nicely in most places, and usually vacinate them as well. You have nothing to worry about.

Question by deb: Neighbor demanding to see my dog’s rabies tag?
My neighbor’s kids like to tease my dogs. They throw rocks, apples, yell, scream, etc. Through the years I have asked the parents to speak to the kids and of course, their little darlings would never do such a thing.

My German Shepard hated these kids because of this. He recently passed away. While debating on whether or not to get another dog, as my little cairn was depressed, I found a stray that had been abused. He is a black lab about 7 months old. Well, decided to keep him. Neighbors, cheap little picket fence is rotten. The cairn wiggled through a loose board, the pup followed him. I called them back over and they came home. I apologized to the neighbor. He then came over and asked if they had their rabies vaccines. I replied yes.

I was home in bed with the flu. A bit later, a knock at the door again. He says. I really would feel better if you showed me the tags. They don’t have them on cuz they lose them. The pup doesn’t like the jingle and has scratched til he bled. I told him I have them in the kitchen drawer, but had the flu, could we do this another time?

Then as I began to feel better, I am getting upset. We have lived here for 20 years and thought we were good neighbors. I am insulted that this guy basically called me a liar. I don’t think I want to show him the tags, just because. So I’m betting its going to be a great Memorial Day, he’s going to ask for the tags, I’m gonna say no, he’s gonna call the cops, and I will show the tags to the cop.

If he’d fix his darn fence, there wouldn’t be an issue. I am thinking of getting that ugly green temp fence and putting it up. Can I put that on his fence?
Yes I called three surrounding towns police departments to report that I had him. Been 3 weeks now. Well, I just might fix his fence then.
