The antibiotics will only have been given to help prevent the Kennel Cough from developing into pneumonia. KC is a virus, and as such, can’t be treated – it has to work through the system. If she’s still doing this, after all this time, I’d say you need to get her back to the vet for him to listen to her lungs and otherwise check her out. This could wel be something other than KC as I’d have thought it a bit long for this to be hanging around and her natural immunity should have prevented reinfection, much as this virus does mutate.

Question by hershey: is it normal for a dog to stop eating if he has kennel cough?
I have a puppy 4 months old and he was diagnose with kennel cough he is on antibiotics and cough syrup but he wont eat sometimes i have to give him food with my hands, should i go to the doctor again or is that something normal that happens when dogs have that disease?

Kennel cough itself does not generally cause a loss of appetite. However it also does not require antibiotics as it is a virus not a bacteria. Kennel cough can lead to secondary infections that do require antibiotics and can cause a loss of appetite. If this is a new symptom then your dog needs to go back to the vet.

Question by rascal the bulldog: my puppy has kennel cough and now my other dog it not eating, what do I do?
I bought a puppy a little over a week ago and when I got him home he started to show signs of kennel cough, the more research I did I found out too late that I should not let him around my other dog. When I talked to my vet he said if my other dog is not showing signs don’t worry about it. He now is sleeping all the time and has not ate today which is very rare. Just wondering what I should do or if this is just a phase?

Vet.

If your dog is not coughing it may not be KC, but something else.

Question by Ben Lau: My Dog has Kennel Cough and is not eating. How do I get him to eat something?
We picked him up from the Humane society two days ago, and were informed that there was an outbreak at the pound, and that my dog was administered with the Bordatella vaccination. I took him to the vet yesterday and was given antibiotics and a cough suppressant. I have also set-up a vaporizer by his crate to help, but he still has not gained back his appetite. He took his third antibiotic this morning, but is there anything else I can do you get his appetite back?

consistent grooming for 2 more days. If cough has not disappeared by then, a vet trip is inevitable.
