Question by Kimberly Walker: Who can be my Dr. House? I have a mystery illness…?
I will make this as short as possible. I am a 26 yr old female, in good shape and eat well. Ive had my gallbladder and appendix out. In march I came down with shingles (horrible pain). Two months later I had it again (sick all the while in between with every passing illness). In june I had a horrible sinus infection thing (maybe flu), I made lobster for my husband while I was recovering and had an anaphylactic reaction to it. Went to the doc to get tested, and had anaphylaxis from that. I had recurrent reaction 4 hours later when the meds wore off, then again in walmart days later from no known allergen. They put me on steroids, which took 6 weeks to taper off of and I was so sick I couldnt hardly do anything the whole time. I have had shingles twice again since. Every three weeks I get sick as a dog. I have this recurring illness no one can explain. Here are my symptoms

-Swollen glands (esp on the right side, and my face swells on the right side when I sleep)
-Ringing in my right ear, which comes and goes
-Extreme fatigue, I am falling asleep sitting up when I slept great lastnight!
-Stress intolerance
-Tight lungs, I feel like I am having a constant mild asthma attack
-Wierd symptom, but the asthma attack thing and coughing happens worse just before every bowel movement.
-Joint pain, most especially wrists and knees. Much worse when I am tired.
-Muscle aches, mainly lower back and legs
-Random low grade fevers (99.0-99.6 and Im normally in the 97.’s)
-Panic attacks (which I have never had before all of this)
-Skin flushing
-Pain where my liver is, and it is very tender to palpation
-Chest pain, bilateral. Only prominent when all of my glands swell (esp inguinal glands which make it difficult to walk when they hurt so bad)

I currently have all of these, but I now also have developed this skin rash I have had for two weeks. It looks like measles or roseola, but is not either. My primary care doc doesnt know what it is.

Here are my labs
CBC, CMP are fine, all within limits
ANA neg x 3 checks
Urine HIAA normal, but chromagranin A 86, then recheck 61.
Rheumatoid factor of 11, normal is below 10. But most people don’t have it at all.
All other autoimmune labs are normal
Serum tryptase (for mast cell disorders) is normal
Halter monitor shows PAC’s and PVC’s, but I was cleared for cardiac
Lung function tests shows 9% improvement with meds, indicating bronchospasms
Labs are still out for lyme disease and chronic mono

My mom has Sjogren’s, which they said is a big possibility for me. But the rheumatologist just blew me off and told me to come back in a couple of years so my labs will be more indicative. Frustrating.

In between these spells, I feel about 90%. Not much really bothers me and I have tons of energy, as I have my whole life. But every couple of weeks I am convinced I am dying of something. I am miserable, and it is really effecting my life. Then it goes away and I am okay. Someone tell me they have been through this and survived!!!
By the way, the specialist I have been to include
my primary care doc
2 allergy specialist
an endocrinologist
a rheumatologist
a cardiologist
I am asking because they are stumped

You should go to a specialist instead of asking an online community!

I was so mad by the end of this. It took over three hours to do and it ended up not working. I know it’s kinda long, I’m sorry.

Question by tahlasimsim: In the jungle at certain times we get ticks in the dog house and the puppies get tick fever. How2prevent?
The problem is that we are having a damned hard time preventing the ticks. What pesticides to use? How should we use them? How to preventatively treat the puppies? We don’t get tick collars here. Can Icon treatment of the dog house harm? Why do ticks only come during the rains?

You should use a spot on like Frontline or Advantage. You may need to order them from Petsmart.com but its better than just letting your dogs get sick

Question by Lauren N: We are getting a new dog who has been living in a house where a dog is being treated for kennel cough…?
We currently have one dog who was vaccinated for kennel cough about 6 months ago. We are getting a rescue dog this weekend, who has been vaccinated for kennel cough, but another dog in his foster home has been diagnosed with kennel cough. Should we be concerned or is it okay to bring the new dog into our home?

I had a bout with Kennel Cough with my dogs. I had broght in a rescue dog I was fostering, and my other three dogs had been vaccinated, but they still got it. What the vet told me was kennel cough has different stains kinda like a flu. Before you bring the dog make sure they were getting meds to kennel cough, because it may take time for it to show up in a dog. So if they have already been treated like it has kennel cough then it is less likely your dog will get it. Another thing is once you bring the dog home, wash it. That way if there is anything on the dog that might get your dogs sick will be washed away, and it will help you get a better look at it’s coat and health. And take it into the Vet asap, have the vet give it a once over and take some blood to check for heartworms. That way if there is something worng, the vet can stop it before it gets outta hand. Just some of the things I learned from foster and adopting dogs. Make sure you get a copy of all the shots the dog has gotten to, so the vet knows what is going on and what the dog needs. Hope this helps
Cyndi

Question by Haven_Summers: Who know your house was a medicine cabinet?
Kills fleas instantly…Dawn dishwashing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog’s bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas.

Rainy day cure for dog odor …Next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet , inst antly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent sal ve for burns.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They’ll clear up your stuffed nose.

Question by Soff: Is it possible there could be a toxin in my house that I’m not aware of? Please read!?
I used to have both a dog and a cat. Both were very healthy animals and my dog I had had for over 8 years while my cat I had only had for two. They had never had any serious health issues besides an occasional flu. No worms, absolutely nothing was wrong with these two animals. I lived though, in a different house when I had them and when me and my family moved to a new, much bigger house almost two years ago, my cat became very sick quite suddenly without warning after a long while of living in the house. He apparently was having seizures and the doctors said it was a neurological problem and could of been caused by medicine for humans. But we had always been very careful and no medicine had ever fallen to the floor with us. Well, despite attempts he became much more ill and the vets in fact gave him too high of a dosage of medicine, he eventually died we assumed of a drug overdose. He was only two years old, we mourned him and were sad for a long time. This, was in november. Now, towards the end of august my dog got this same exact seizures and she too, was told to have neurological problems. This had happened with us before with her but it wasn’t as severe and she was easily treated and better (again, this happened after we moved into the new house, her small seizures and was during the first year of living in the house). Again now it happened but much more severe and completely out of the blue. She was fine one day, healthy 8 year old maltese that acted like a puppy and the next day she was vomitting and had a flu and continued to get very bad seizures. The vets claimed there was little they could do because she was unresponsive and her brain was inflamed. She died the next day following her getting sick and my family has been very upset but we all feel that we need a new dog in order to fill the void. Theres no aniamls in the house now and its making us all very sad so we have agreed to get a puppy. Our only problem is that my whole family is very concerned that there might be something in the house, something that only our pets seem to be getting affected by. We don’t want another life short-lived as my family becomes very attached and emotional with pets so my question is, could there be anything in my house that could be causing my pets to have neurological problems or was this all bad luck and coincidence? Please answer and if there is possibly something in my house, how would I get rid of it?
Thanks alot for your answers but I definitely don’t think there was a meth lab in my home only because the man who had previously owned it we came to know well and he also had dogs living in the home and never had any problems. Someone mentioned apple tress and carpetting and molds? I have one outside. Could someone maybe tell me more about plants? As for molds, how would I know if there is one? And the carpetting we got in the attic is new and the man before us didn’t have it, I remmeber often I’d lie down on the floor and once got a very bad allergic reaction along with hives. I was the only one to be on the floor besides my pets, could this be telling me something?

If you have an exterminator in to spray I have heard of some of those chemicals having that effect on dogs and cats. They absorb through the pads on their feet.

Question by edie .: Our dog is sick…could it be she ate a leaf off my new house plant?
Its a 6″ tropical upright plant. It doesn’t say what kind it is on the label…we have narrowed it down to a few by looking at pictures on the internet. One we think it my be is a Chinese Evergreen. Our Dog is a German Shepard, she vomited last night and this morning and doesn’t want to eat. She just lays around the house but she still barks when she wants outside. My son has been giving her water with a sports bottle. Would a house plant cause this ? I think it could also be a doggie type flu because she has a drippy eye. HELP!
