Question by 1Luna1: Brought Home Sneezing Shelter Cat, Now My dog Sneezing Too. Should I go to the vet?
I brought home an adorable 5-month old kitten home 4 days ago. I’ve been noticing that he has been sneezing a lot ever since I got him home. The shelter did give him all his vaccines (except for the Leukemia virus) and he is eating and using the bathroom just fine. He is a tad bit lethargic for a 5-month old cat (but might be due to stress?). The shelter said that he may continue to sneeze for up to a week.
The problem now is that my little 2 year old Maltese dog has started to sound like a Pug. She snorts and sneezes a little. She is up to date with her vaccines, and is due for the Bordetella nasal spray very soon.

Should I be concerned with either animal? Both are eating, going to the bathroom properly, affectionate, playful, and seem ok except for the mild cold-like systems. Should I bring them to the vet or will this pass on its own?

Thanks for your advice!

Either, the dog’s copying for fun, or its like a cold.
Contagious.
If it gets worse, or doesn’t pass, go to the vet.

Question by rawr.clothing: We recently got a dog from the shelter and our two cats won’t stop sneezing?
About 5 days after we got our new puppy from the shelter, we noticed our two cats started sneezing a lot. Lexi is 4 years old and the other cat Roxanne is 3. They are not outside cats. Roxanne likes being in the basement a lot which is always cold. We aren’t sure if one cat caught a cold and gave it to the other, or maybe they caught something from the dog. Does anyone have any ideas on why they keep sneezing and what to do to help them?

And can my dog get it?!

Answer by Bill
No – if you install proper filtration then there is no way for the virus to get in. It is not transmissible to dogs.

Thanks
