Question by T P: What should I do to help my dog who is running a fever and not feeling well?
This morn. my dog woke up not acting his normal self. Didn’t want 2 eat, barely walked up the steps & didn’t want 2 go outside like he normally does. I let him out & he went pee & then stood in the same spot for about 5 min. he then moved a few feet & pooped then stood there for about 5-10 in the same spot & slowly came back in the house. I noticed he had a lot of discharge coming from his eyes. I took him to the vet & they gave him fluids & a shot of Ampicillin. He came home with ointment for his eyes & Cephalexin. He was also running a fever. They said that the fluids they gave him would help. I am so worried about him. I just adopted him from the animal shelter a couple of weeks ago. He was neutered before I picked him up. He is a very high enery dog which is how I realized something was wrong. He ate his dinner but he will not drink any water & I do believe he is still running a fever. Does anyone have an idea what may be wrong or what I can do for him? Am I worrying 2 much?

If he is eating and drinking water, it isn’t an emergency. But I would take him to the vet and make sure. It could be weather related or he may be getting older. Sometimes they can suffer from depression, just like people. The best thing to do is to talk to your vet.

Question by FuNPeRsOn!<3: My dog is sneezing like crazy! What should i do?
I have a wolf/chow. She usually doesn’t react to anything the way she did here. We took her to the park a few days ago,and let her stick her head out the window for the ride there.I read something about dogs putting their heads out the window, and that that isn’t really good for the dog. But I don’t know… she started this sneezing until a day or two after. We were thinking of giving her Benydryl, but wanted to make sure before we take her to the vet or anything. What should I do?

Question by Nixon!: My dog has rocky mountain fever, is there any caution i should take when im near him?
I just found out my dog has rocky mountain fever maybe from a tick. I am giving him antibiotics i started giving it to him two weeks ago. I give him 2 in the mourning and 2 in the evening. Im will be out of the pills in 2 days, the vet said that the pills should help clear up the virus. But can i get infected? What can i do to prevent that? I walk him everyday so i have to have contact with him. After he takes all his anti bio-tics will all the viruses be gone?
So my dog cant get me infected even if he licks me or something, i can only get infected by the disease carrying tick?

Best answer:

Answer by panache
It is a tick bourne disease so if a tick from the dog bites to you,it can infect you.Otherwise you can’t be infected

Question by Eilanna: Should I be worried? I’m mostly just confused, actually!?
Yeah, so I’ve been hearing about this swine influenza. I understand it comes from Mexico & pigs & such. I also understand that the media is making it sounds crazier than it really is. My question? Why is the media making such a big deal of it, if there is a cure coming within 60 days?

I’ve heard it gets worth in the fall & winter, so we are more at risk then. My second question: Is my family safe? Are my pet dogs safe? I’m worried for them! My sister is 18, I am 12, and my parents are between 50 and 56.

I live in Massachusetts, close to Boston. I have a good friend who is GOING to Mexico! I’m kinda creeped out because she goes to my school. I’m thinking she’s going to cancel the trip, but I don’t know for sure since she’s in Europe now. If she DOES decide to go, is it a good choice to return to school after the holidays?

Should I be scared? I’m confused & yes I have a lot of questions. I really would like answers.
Oh wait, here’s one more: How can I get Swine flu?

Thanks. Please explain this to me simply, I’m not the brightest. :D
Oh, and please don’t make me panic, I.E. “Your going to die. I suggest you run & hide.” That won’t help. Lol.

Thanks.

Question by John Z: Does my Dog have a Fever? What should we do?
My dog, Bessie, has a fever according to my mother.
- Bessie’s nose is cold as always
- My mother did a rectal temperature and it was 100.5 F.
- Bessie drinks a lot of water, but she also eats a lot (both drinks and eats whole bowls at a time for some odd reason, one sitting, one gorge, one dish of 1-2 cups of food)

Question: Bessie is a Mastiff, you guys think she has a fever? If so, what should we do (besides go to the vet, financially that’s really out of the question right now, as it is for many other families I’m sure)?

Best answer:

Answer by Bob
Go half way: call your vet and ask what you should do. Anything between 99 and 102 is normal for a dog.

Question by Brenda: Should i adopt a dog with kennel cough?
I went to the shelter 2 days ago and saw a border collie, I wanted to adopt it, but they told me it had kennel cough, but today i went to their website to check if the dog is still available and i saw that it said it was in grave danger of being euthanized. I am now seriously considering adopting the dog, but i am worried because i already have two pups, about three months old and I am afraid that if i adopt the dog, he will pass on the kennel cough to my pups. What should i DO???? I need advice

Best answer:

Answer by Duke
Kennel cough is rarely if ever fatal, but it can set the dog up for secondary infections. It will almost always respond to treatment, and in many cases goes away on its own. I suggest adopting the dog with the understanding that you’re going to have some vet bills right off the bat, but the dog should be OK in the long run. It would help if you can keep him separated from the pups for 10-14 days.
