What are the chances that a dog can get just a simple cough, that will only last a few days?
Here are the facts:
He’s a 15 year old lab mix, who does not get his shots anymore because he suffered from an auto-immune disease 2 years ago (IMHA) and nearly died. Giving him his shots is considered too risky, and could cause the IMHA to return. Two nights ago he woke up and was hacking and coughing (dry) on and off for an hour. He then mellowed out, and fell asleep with the occasional cough during sleep. The next morning he was fine. Since then, the coughs become much milder. It seems that only if he lays flat, sideways, he will cough a little … then he’ll adjust his position to the ’sphinx-like’ position, and he’ll sleep just fine. He also coughs a little right after he drinks some water.
I really would like to only hear from either Vets or Vet Techs, or someone who’s really had experience with this. I deeply care for my little senior, I do not take the cough lightly, and am not trying to save a buck by diagnosing here. I’m just wondering since he really does seem to be better, whether there is just a simple dog cough that could be the culprit. I’m off tomorrow, so if there is the slightest chance that he’s still uncomfortable today, I will of course take him to his regular vet. But he has been eating, drinking, playing and goofing around as usual.

Answer by john ross I am not a vet or a vet tech but have owned many dogs. I do know that in an older dog specially a cough could mean heart problems. Given his age the best thing you can do is to take him to the vet for a good overall checkup. Good luck. Hope he is okay.

On the 16th, so 13 days ago, my family and I took two of our dogs in to get spayed. One is a German Shepherd puppy about ten months, and the other is an american eskimo (miniature) about 6 and a half years old. The day before yesterday, I noticed a ‘choking’ or nasally cough noise coming from my american eskimo. I don’t know what a dog coughing sounds like, but i’d imagine it is something like this. The German Shepherd and our Shi tzu (the shi tzu was not taken to be fixed) seem to be un-affected. The American Eskimo was taken to my local park about a little over a week after getting fixed. She only seems to ‘cough’ about a few times a day, if that.
Is this probably kennel cough? And about how much would it be to take her to the vet and get it taken care of if it is?
Before I get lectured on putting a price on my dog’s health, the reason I ask is because my parents do not like taking our dogs into the vet, but if I could provide most of the money for what it would cost (which I am more than happy to do) then they could be convinced easily. However on babysitting funds, I need to have an idea of what I will be paying/owing.
I just noticed now that when she’s breathing, every once in awhile it sounds like me with my cold. Like a runny nose is being held back.

My dog 7 year old keeshond reverse sneezes alot. cauld this be because of astma or allergies? it happens more often in the fall and spring. he is also overweight and has an underactive thyroid. i am working with him to loose weight. the reverse sneeze that he had last night lasted for about 15 mins how do i get it to stop? and dont say take him to the vet. the closest vet is an hour away and we cant just rush him to the er for allergies.

Answer by Sarah My dogs reverse sneeze often and for long periods of time. They are also brachycephalic so thats the reaosning behind that. But I’m pretty sure it’s a normal occurrence and shouldn’t be cause for much alarm.

Ok, a bit of back story is needed here…
I have bad dental hygene. I was never taught how to brush my teeth as a kid and my parents never made me do it, so I did not devolope a habit for brushing until I turned 19ish. I am now 21 and brush twice a day, but the damage is done. I have several broken teeth and they are very decayed. Now onto the issue…
I have a broken tooth that is extremely painful. I have been taking IB profen and almost a tube of oragel a week on it and even now the pain is incredible. I am almost thinking of going to the ER but I know they can do nothing for it.
Last week I got the swine flu and had a sore throat with it, and my mom gave me chloresptic drops to suck on for my throat, and that pure sugar right on the tooth sent it into over drive. I know I can try clove oil, but I live in the boon dogs and the closest thing to me in a 50 mile radius is walmart which dosent cary it.
Any other suggestions?
I am sitting here with ice on it a dead tired from the lack of sleep on this.
I cannot go to a dentist as I have no insurance and my job is low paying, I am barely making rent, let alone get a tooth extracted.
Should I go ahead and just have someone help me pull it out?

Answer by DrKK Woman, what you have is a massive bacterial infection that has gone from your tooth into an abscess in your jaw.
I want you to understand this clearly: People can, and do, *DIE* from this when the infection spreads to their heart and brain. You need to have the tooth extracted, or a root canal done, IMMEDIATELY, and be put on antibiotic therapy, immediately. Call some dentists, explain your situation financially, and find out what can be done—you might be pleasantly surprised when you find a dentist who can get something done for you “pro bono” (i.e., because he’s charitible) or utilize some other resource.
Do not screw around! I am not exagerating: An abscessed tooth (and this is definitely what you have) can progress VERY EASILY to a life threatening situation…especially nowadays.
At a VERY minimum, the dentist can get you a prescription for a $ 4 bottle of penicillin from the pharmacy while you figure out what you’re going to do.

I believe that my civil rights were violated by the city of Roswell police and I would like to sue for compensation. I understand that filing a suit against the police is one of the hardest cases to win, so that is why I’m asking for your opinion. Listed here is my case and why I believe I can provide a valid suit. On December 28, 2010, my girlfriend called the police and claimed that I assaulted her the night before. She wanted to come inside to get her stuff, but my family told her she was not allowed inside the house. She lied to the police officers and told them that she lives with my downstairs in my aunt’s basement. She met up with two Cobb police officers near my house. She explained her situation to the officers, and they called in the Roswell police department because I live outside their jurisdiction. When they showed up they proceeded by knocking on the front door and sending someone around back. Meanwhile, I was upstairs sleeping in my aunt’s bed. They called my girlfriend over to go inside and grab the dogs. They came inside and proceeded to search the house for me. I woke up to my two dogs barking and a bunch of boots downstairs. I got scared and ran into my aunt’s closet. I hid under her pile of dirty clothes. They found me and handcuffed me at gunpoint. They brought me downstairs to the family room and told me that I was not under arrest. They asked me what my name was, and they told me to tell them what happened the night before. I refused to say anything ,and I asked to call a lawyer twice and to call my aunt who I explained was the owner of the house. I was denied both. The arresting police officer yelled at me and told me that I was acting like I was twelve, and that I need to be a grown ass man. I gave in and gave them my account of what happened the night before. He told me that was bullshit, and that I was going to be arrested if I continued to lie. I kept denying any questions they asked me about the night before. The lady officer asked the arresting officer if she could talk to me alone. He agreed, and she told me that I need to cooperate with their story so I wouldn’t get in trouble and that we would be able to talk about it. I agreed to their story, and she called the other officer in and told him I admitted to everything. He arrested me for aggravated assault and terroristic threats, which was later wrote up as aggravated assault and false imprisonment. I was informed both of those were serious felonies, but was never read my Miranda Rights. I was booked in at the Roswell city jail and was later transferred downtown to the Fulton County Jail. My bond the next morning was set at a hundred thousand. A couple days later, my girlfriend went to the police department, and told them they made a false police report and provided them with a new statement. I was just released January 21, 2010 by a sign on bond. The arresting officer has failed to show to any of the grand jury’s or the morning of the 19th of January when I was supposed to have a preliminary. The judge got the district attorney to call the officer and ask if he would show up the next morning. He agreed, but did not show up the next day. The next day when the judge figured out what happened, she was extremely angry. When the officer was called he claimed to have the swine flu, and that he was taking hydrocodone and codeine and was not able to make it. The judge did not believe his excuse and gave him a couple days to provide paperwork or he would be thrown into jail for perjury. I believe that the arresting officer found out that I have a witness saying he denied me a lawyer and that he did not read me my rights. I think he believes one of the Cobb police officers is my witness and that he did not wish to come to court and perjure himself. I believe that my fourth, sixth fourteenth amendment was violated during my arrest. They did not have the right to search for me without a warrant, and they did not have the right to deny me a lawyer. I have to right to not be illegally interrogated, and I have the right to be made aware of my rights. My girlfriend was in the room over and heard the interrogation, and I do not believe the two Cobb police officers would perjure themselves under oath. My hope is to file a suit against the city of Roswell for the thousands of dollars I spent to retain a lawyer, compensation for the money they made off of me while I was detained and emotional distress due to inmate harassment while I was detained. . Thank you for taking your time for reading over this and any comments are greatly appreciated.
Id like to clarify that I did not harm her in any way, but she was angry at me. The only reason I was detained is because of my statement. If it can be proved that illegal interrogation was used resulting in my incarceration, then should I not be compensated. I would not of been arrested if I did not give them a statement.
