Question by tiffanyirene_2003: do dogs ever have contagious viruses?
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a stomach flu that was contagious between dogs. A couple of weeks ago we switched food (we always use Iams) to Iams Weight Prevention and the pugs *loved* it! But about 5-7 days after getting it Mugsy had very very bad diariha and of course we blamed it on the food and went back to his old kind. However Mable was fine and we continued the Weight Prevention food for her because we had this huge 50 pound bag of it and didn’t want to waste it! Anyways for the next few days the diariha filtered out of Mugsy and then everything was fine for a couple of days. But starting last night Mable had very bad gas waking us up many times through the night and she has just been acting very fidgety like she couldn’t get comfortable. This morning I take her out and she has the same kind of diariha that Mugsy had, identical. So I stopped giving her the food, but I was just wondering is it possible for the pugs to share viruses? Anyone ever hear of this or is it probably just the food?

First, yes. Have you heard of Parvo?
Second, it’s more likely from the change of food. Were you able to do it gradually? That can upset most dog’s tummies.

haha no xD the virus making him sick is made to make dogs sick. the virus would have to mutate so that it would be able to infect human cells

Dogs can pass around stomach viruses just like humans can, but they can not pass the SAME viruses as humans. Your dog can not get sick with your stomach flu, or vice versa. It is very rare for a virus to jump from one species to another. When that does happen, you end up with strains of flu like the H1N1 “Swine Flu” that has been so prominent in the news over the past month.
