Question by ana r: My neighbor wants the apartment complex to force me to get rid of my dog what can I do?
I have a 9 month old Maltese, he is very sweet, polite and doesn’t have any major issues. About 3 months ago someone was moved to the apartment in front of mine. This man was transferred from another apartment in the same complex because he didn’t like his neighbors and he complained too much. In January I received a letter from the complex saying someone had complained about my dog barking too much, and we just received another letter today.
My dog doesn’t bark during the day, he sometimes barks when he hears someone coming up the stairs or standing outside my door. The problem that we are working on is that on Friday and Saturday he barks between 11 pm and 1 am when someone in the apartment is missing. It’s not constant, it’s more like he is hyper-aware and more sensitive to sound so he will bark then. We realize how this is annoying and I am working on fixing the issue because it’s not fair on our neighbors.
This past saturday I was home sick with the flu, and if I am there the dog doesn’t bark. My neighbor was coming back from getting groceries at 7PM and knocked on my door (triggering my dog to bark) and started yelling at me and threatening me saying “if you don’t get out of this apartment, your dog will, one of you is going to have to leave”. Mind you, he just moved in and we have been there for 6 years with no previous issues. He yelled to the extent that I was left shaking and crying.
I called the leasing office today to deal with the letter we received, they said we had to get the barking under control because someone had complained the dog had barked this past weekend from 12am – 1:30 am and they had knocked on my door but no one answered. I was home then with the 3 members of my family, the dog wasn’t barking and no one knocked. I recognize this may have happened before, but the house is never empty at that time, there may be someone out, but there are always at least 2 people there, someone would have opened the door. I mentioned to the leasing office the incident of my neighbor yelling at me on Saturday and they said they would talk to him about it. I also suggested I was willing to switch apartments and even pay extra and move into a townhouses available in the complex (they don’t share walls with neighbors) in order to disturb less and get rid of a neighbor that I consider to be a threat. To what they told me that because of the dog issues, they won’t move me; f I want to move within the complex I will have to wait until the lease is up in October and “if we can’t control the dog, you’ll have to get rid of it”. Not only did we pay $ 500 deposit for the dog, we pay extra $ 50 a month for his rent. He has absolutely no issues to work on besides the barking and we are working on it and improving where we need to improve, but this is just not fair…he is just a puppy. Does anyone know what my rights are or have any suggestions if you’ve been in similar situations? I would really appreciate it. This dog is part of the family. Thank you!

Tell that neighbor to STFU. He has NOOOO Right. I’d keep the dog and tell him to suck it. If the dog is a part of your family, it is.

when we first met i was living near him i use to wait in my car till i see him so i can hang with him. I saw him all the time in the beginning i was his first(he is in his twenties). We have a few minor glitches such as his phone shutting yet that week n half we realize that we miss each other so much that when we finally spoke i say i miss you he say he miss me too. It was that time in which i starting to give him notes i leave them at his front door so he will see that even if i nah speak to him cuz of his phone i still like him so much. The last time we have se,….was in early dec he works two jobs so then my phone was not so great my car not so great when the christmas came. Yet when i have phone he call me to say lets have se,…i not have car at the time the transportation for him to come to me he was willing to was not open yet he. Even when we stay up talking on the cell that night he was really upset I can not come after that i never get to go in his house. The truth is from the start when i came to his house it was at night the family he lives with there not into ppl religious type so he will sneak me in yet after that time i was unable to come for se…..i went once after that then not yet….he tells me the family is up all the time every time he comes from that place he is upset yet when i say im sorry there not nice he says not to worry. He wants to move ever since i say im moving. One of the nights that i went to his house i say im getting a 1room he say he wants one to i took it as if he wants to move in with me i will like this. He works for his family two jobs plus has a dog to take care i feel im not his top piority anymore. The most recent week he nah call me for 8 days that is a week i was the one who call him until he write me. In person he is the greatest. The most recent time i saw him he confess so much to me he confide in me plus he want my address so he can come to stay with me not that family yet on the night he was to come family emergency he was truthful he call me so much that. He once say he loves me he was truthful. When he not write me 8 days even when i write him when he finally write me he has swine flu so he say he was sorry that he was the problem not me. I say when can we meet he tell me that fri sat he is with family which is truth he say sun. At this time i write him i say you still want to spen time with me, he writes so fast of coarse so its truth. Then sun comes i write im coming he writes im not home. I feel upset i want to hang with him im seein him yes he really is working two jobs he has family he hangs where am i going to fit in. He say that he wants to spen time with me then when. is 8 days to long to call i mostly see him 1 week if im lucky we write semi in the beginning i was there he never have to try to come to me is this my fault. He hates cheaters he is not one yet all his past were cheaters is this what happens to a guy who has got cheated on. I have yet to tell him i love him i like him how much i care will that even help me

Question by clmh: My dog has kennel cough and the vet wants to put her on antibiotics?
My dog had the Bordetella Vaccine but was exposed to a dog that has kennel cough the next day. I’ve searched online and everything I’ve read says that to just let the disease run it’s course and the dog will be over it in 2 weeks. The vet assistant said that kennel cough doesn’t go away by itself. She said they would have to put my dog on two different antibiotics, one for inflammation and I can’t remember the other. I heard antibiotics are bad for the dogs immune system though. I tried to find a suppressant for kennel cough locally but didn’t have any luck.

Daisy is a really great girl – it doesn’t go further than friendship, you know – she’s a great cook, a true friend, patches me up after skateboarding accidents, she stands up for me since I myself am against violence, she is kind and caring, she stood by me when I was ill (flu, just normal one, don’t worry), she is the voice of reason in our ‘household’ and can stop me from going back to my ex to talk to her.

So she’s done quite some things for me, but now she wants a dog. I am terrified of lightning, bamboo and – yes – dogs, so I don’t want one. However, objecting to it after she’s been so nice towards me makes me feel like a prick. What to do?

maybe you should discuss your fear of dogs to her and if she is all u said then she will understand
but make sure you lay it out nicely and tell her its because ur afraid of them and not because you don’t want her to have one

Well, it is a little complicated, so let me explain it.

Some time ago, I got cheated upon by my ex-girlfriend and my best friend. I was left without a home, and moved in together in a flat that was only to be rented out to couples, with a girl named Daisy.

We’re not a couple, we’re just friends, although she is very nice to me and has done lots of things, such as being my personal taxi driver (have no license myself), my personal doctor – she has helped me out when I had a broken leg due to skateboarding and when I was ill with the flu she was right there for me – and my personal cook (and a good one at that).

So she is a very nice girl. She even stopped me from going back with my ex-girlfriend, and is always there when I need her. Even nagging she doesn’t mind.

But now she wants a dog. Big deal, one would say, but I am absolutely terrified of three things: that’s lightning, bamboo and, yes, dogs.

I don’t want to force her not to have a dog just because of me, but I’m not to keen on having it myself, since I am terrified by the beasts. I’m torn apart here, since she’s been really kind to me and I don’t want to see her unhappy, but I can’t live with a dog either.

How would you handle this ?

talk to her. she may hold off on getting a dog for you but if you feel really bad about it, try to find a breed of dog thats less scary to you. maybe if its the barking or yapping, suggest a quiet dog. if your scared of big dogs, suggest a small breed. once she has a dog, you might grow out of your fear and learn to get along with dogs
